Duct Fan Selection Guide: Axial or Radial?

A duct fan is installed directly into a ventilation duct to move air through the system. Depending on the application, an axial or radial fan configuration may be preferred.

01

What is a duct fan?

A duct fan is installed directly into a ventilation duct to move air through the system. Depending on the application, an axial or radial fan configuration may be preferred.

02

When is an axial duct fan suitable?

For high airflow and relatively low pressure requirements, axial duct fans offer a compact solution. The duct size and the fan’s actual operating point should be determined correctly.

03

When is a radial duct fan suitable?

Radial fans can offer an advantage in systems with higher resistance, filters or more complex duct arrangements.

04

Include duct losses in the calculation

Bends, contractions, filters, silencers, grilles and duct length all contribute to the total pressure loss the fan must overcome. Selection should be based on these losses.

05

Vitlo duct fan solutions

The Vitlo range includes the AXD axial duct fan and CRB and CRD rectangular duct fans, together with relevant ATEX solutions for hazardous areas.
